2016 needs to be the year when “you do you”! One of my favorite gifts of 2015 was a subscription box – those month boxes put a smile on my face and discovering new products was such a fun adventure. To kick off the new year, I’ve listed my 8 Best Subscription Boxes for 2016 – there’s something for everyone and they make a great gift idea!
Goodbox by Tisbury Turkey ($45/box) : let’s start off with a local to Martha’s Vineyard subscription box. This box is curated for everyone that loves this island more than anything, whether you’ve only spent a summer to twenty years. Goodbox comes with 4-5 items, locally made and each with an island story behind them and that’s my favorite thing about it – even though I live on island, discovering new to me products is special. For every box purchased, $5 is donated to a Vineyard non-profit.
Flaviar – Tasting is Believing ($24.99/box – first box only $18.99): if you love discover new spirits, Flaviar is the box for you. Every month you receive a tasting box with three samples of the box’s theme: rum, whiskey, vodka, gin, cognac, bourbon, or tequila. I found that the tasting boxes really pushed me out of my comfort zone – I discovered new loves and learned how to really taste them on their own, appreciating the craft even more. Not only that, but the information pamphlet included with the box is worth the subscription itself – so much great info on the spirit of the month! Perfect gift for yourself or a special someone that loves tasting spirits.
Vegan Cuts Snack Box ( $19.95/month): If you’re a big snacker, this is the box you need in your life. Seriously, the snacks packed in this box were all outstanding and such a huge variety. Everything from protein bars to seitan to tea and chips in between, they are all cruelty-free, vegan products that will help you set the pace for snacking in 2016. Each box includes 7-10 snacks, both full and sample sizes. If you’re a family of two or a family of five, these snacks are just what you nee!
Kawaii Box ($18.90/month): Ok, this might be the cutest box you’ll ever open and that’s because “kawaii” in popular Japanese culture literally means “cute”! This one is for the lover of all things Asian and kawaii and let me tell you why: it’s packed with 10-12 items carefully picked to bring you joy. Honestly, this is the perfect gift for all ages – young girls would love, as well as elder grandmas, I promise!
Bean Box ($20/month): we all know a coffee lover or are one ourselves and Bean Box is the enabler in this situation that will provide us with monthly samples of some of Seattle’s best independent coffee roasters. Have you ever been to Seattle? It’s one of the nation’s most amazing cities for the coffee industry – coffee shops and roasters on every corner! Every Bean Box Sampler features a half pound of freshly-roasted whole bean coffee, tasting notes, roaster profiles, brewing tips, and an artisan chocolate.
Petit Vour ($15/month): I had a chance to meet the founder of Petit Vour at last year’s WELL Summit and let me just tell you, they’re the kindest, most thoughtful people I’ve ever met. This beauty box is packed every month with some incredible brands, hand chosen by Madeline and Ryan (co-founders). Madeline tells me that they get requests to carry endless products every month, but her duty as Petit Vour is to make 100% sure that the brands align perfectly with their mission of cruelty free products. Not only that, but products that actually work!
Skoshbox ($12/month): big far one of the best Asian snack boxes I’ve ever received, Skoshbox has two kinds of boxes you can get. The Original Skoshbox is packed to the brim with sample sized snacks, the perfect gift for a college student as it fits in any PO Box; and the DEKAbox (starts at $20/month) which is packed with about one pound worth of full sized snacks, ideal for a family. The snacks included were incredibly varied and you can really tell the detail and thought put into each box, which I loved.
GlobeIn ($35/month): if you’r interested in food culture from around the world, GlobeIn is the box for you. The gorgeous items received in my Artisan Box were just incredible – fairly traded, artisan made, and unique to their birthplace. This box is a great gift to yourself, as you’ll discover throughout the year not only the items that come in the box, but the story behind the artisans that make them. Truly, a thoughtful experience.
Disclaimer: Subscription boxes were sent as samples – I received over 15 brands of boxes and these were the 8 that made the cut. Opinions are 100% my own and not that of the brands – I truly recommend every box listed!
I’m so glad you included Flaviar in this! I have been going back and forth for months on whether or not I wanted to try them out!
So many I havent tried, thank you for sharing this list.
So many great ones I was unfamiliar with before! I wish I had endless funds and could subscribe to all… Mail days would be so much fun 🙂
