These BBQ Whiskey Bacon Chicken Kebabs might just be the most delicious things to hit your grill this summer – slathered in a marinade of smokey bacon, boozy whiskey, and sweet barbecue sauce, what else could you ask for?!
I’ve never been more obsessed with grilling than I have this summer. Maybe it’s because my grill is a gas grill and super easy to use, compared to last year’s charcoal nightmare that I could only use if the husband was home. Yes, I’m one of those housewives that can’t handle a grill. But with the current grill we own, a simple turn of a dial and I’m ready to get my grill on!
While brainstorming with my summer housemates on what to grill, we thought about chicken kebabs. But those are so boring and overdone. One of my friends mentioned a bacon chicken kebab and that got me thinking – how about a bacon marinade?! And what goes better with bacon than some sweet barbecue sauce and smoky whiskey?
A couple of weeks ago, Woodbridge sent me their limited edition, sweet & tangy Cabernet Sauvignon grilling sauce called Woodbridge Wine ‘Cue Sauce. “Inspired by a shared commitment to create quality products for everyday enjoyment, Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi and Daddy Sam’s partnered to create a one-of-a-kind Texas style sauce, infusing the dark fruit and caramelized flavors of the winery’s beloved Cabernet Sauvignon into a sweet and tangy molasses-based grilling sauce that’s ideal for summer entertaining.”
Personally, I’ve enjoyed using the sauce the past few weeks in just my every day cooking – I’ve added it to red bean chili, I’ve slathered hamburgers with it, and I’ve dipped fries into a mixture of the sauce and mayonnaise. It’s really good – unlike any sauce I’ve had, since the wine is cooked down (no residual alcohol in it, so perfect for all ages!), and leaves a syrupy sweet flavor without the addition of HFCS or any artificial ingredients.
Thanks to the folks at Woodbridge, we’re giving away three jars of the sauce to one winner – you’ll get them in time to squeeze in some end of summer grilling and I promise it will become a favorite! Enter in the giveaway below and make this recipe as soon as you can.
BBQ Whiskey Bacon Chicken Kebabs
Ingredients
- 4 large chicken breasts skinless and boneless
- 2 large orange peppers
- 2 large onions
- 8 bacon strips chopped
- 1 ½ cups barbecue sauce
- ½ cup whiskey
- salt and pepper to taste
- wooden skewers
Instructions
- Preheat your grill to high and soak your wooden skewers in water for about 30 minutes.
- Cut the chicken into 1 inch square cubes, as well as the pepper and onion. You want reasonably equal sizes so they all cook evenly. Season the chicken with salt and pepper.
- Skewer the chicken, peppers, and onions evenly and lay flat on a tray.
- In a small food processor, blend the bacon, barbecue sauce, and whiskey until blended into a smooth mixture.
- Slather that mixture all over the kebabs and grill on all sides until cooked throughly. Serve immediately.
Disclaimer: This is not a sponsored or paid post. Woodbridge sent me a sample of the sauce and I loved it so much I asked them to host a giveaway of the sauces for my readers!
Can’t wait to try this recipe! But…I think starting the grill 45 minutes before you are ready to cook is a bit much. I would start the grill between #3 and #4.
