Power up your day by having one of these Acai Breakfast Bowls at the beginning of your day! Packed with essential nutrients and delicious toppings, it’s bound to become your go-to morning treat!
Considered a superfruit and a powerhouse of nutrients, acai (as an ingredient) has had a steady following in the past few years. The acai bowl, created in Brazil and with a huge popularity in Hawaii, has popped up on the mainland and oh how happy does this make me!
What’s an acai bowl? Basically it’s acai puree blended with either bananas/yogurt/coconut milk, poured into a bowl, and topped with delicious ingredients like hemp seeds, granola, cacao nibs, fresh fruit, and more! It’s an energizing way to start your day, specially when you’re using your favorite toppings.
Acai is a small, purple berry that comes from the acai palm tree and considered a superfood packed with antioxidants. Although it’s tough to find the whole berry in the USA, acai purees can be ordered online or found in the frozen fruit section of your local Whole Foods. We love Amafruits!
The recipe below is basically not a recipe. It’s more like “open your pantry and fridge and throw anything and everything that sounds delicious on your acai puree”! It’s a guide, but honestly top to your hearts content. Ok, chocolate chips aren’t the thing you should be topping it with but anything from your homemade granola (I just used toasted oats since I didn’t have any granola), your favorite nuts, your most prized dried fruits, even a dollop of that strawberry jam you canned last year would be amazing in here!

Just had my first acai bowl last week in Pacific Beach – San Diego and loved it! It was yummy and refreshing! Thanks for the recipe! Now I can try it at home!
Love this! I was in Hawaii last June and discovered this little gem of a breakfast at a few cafes. Most of them blended the acai with other fruit/juices and then the yogurt/fruit/crunchy toppings went on top. Any way you do it, it’s awesome. And oh so tasty. I’m a huge fan.
