Chilly weather makes me instantly crave warm beverages, like this indulgent but oh-so-healthy turmeric white hot chocolate. Read more about the health benefits of using turmeric & recreate this recipe!
During the cold months, my consumption of hot chocolate increases immensely. It’s just the perfect after dinner dessert and half a cup of hot chocolate curbs my crazy must-have-sweets-after-dinner dilemma.
But let’s be honest – hot chocolate isn’t the healthiest thing and my winter weight increases with every cup. That’s why when Madhava Sweeteners asked me to be a part of their Healthier Holidays, I jumped on the occasion to make my adored hot chocolate into a healthier version and that’s how this Turmeric White Hot Chocolate was born.
You might be wondering, why would anyone ever want to drink a hot chocolate with a yellow color? I promise you, it’s all natural! Turmeric, a family member of ginger root, is native to India and have a deep yellow-orange color. The active compound “curcumin” is believed to have a variety of uses in holistic medicine, such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-viral. (Disclaimer: I’m not a doctor, so talk to your doctor before you start anything medicinal-wise!)
It will seriously keep you healthy this winter, I promise! And adding it here and there, in your hot chocolates, your teas, your morning smoothies and green juices, you’ll get the health benefits of turmeric without even noticing. We mostly use it in beverages, since the full benefits are more noticeable when raw, although turmeric is fantastic in low-simmered soups and curried dishes.
Sweetened with Madhava Light Agave, this Turmeric White Hot Chocolate is has a natural touch of sweetness. Agave is low-glycemic, so no more sugar crashes if you’re sipping your hot chocolate during the afternoon! It’s also 1.4x sweeter than sugar, so you can use less in all your baking and cooking – which is fantastic! Another great thing is that this product is non-GMO, gluten free, vegan, parve, and organic, so you can be 100% comfortable serving it to your friends and family.
