Chive blossom vinegar is a tasty addition to many recipes. Flavored vinegars can be used in salad dressings, sauces, and preserving/pickling.
Chives are delicious in their own right, and the blossoms are incredibly fragrant and gorgeous. I think chive blossoms smell a little bit like scallions (green onions), but it’s their beautiful color that draws me in.
I was inspired to make my own after visiting Food in Jars and reading her post on how to make Chive Blossom Vinegar.
If you decide to make this fragrant, delicious flavored vinegar, here are a few important notes and tips:
Be sure to use pesticide free blossoms.
The vinegar I had on hand was unsweetened rice vinegar, so it’s what I used.
As mentioned earlier, the blossoms have a slight onion flavor and gorgeous pink color, perfect for salads or over vegetables.
ooo I def need to try this. I love the day 1 and day 15 photo comparison
Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous flowers. Love the idea of making a beautiful vinegar from the beautiful flowers. And thanks for the time delay pictures!
Love.
I love this. SO beautiful. Someone tweeted about it a few weeks ago. Then I went to Brooklyn Swappers and someone had made a jar. I smell a trend.
It looks fantastic! On day 5 of the steep here. And I have enough blossoms to start a second jar!
Really looking forward to trying it out!
I’ve got heaps of chive flowers out there now – maybe enough for vinegar. I’m off to check it out!
