Brownies. Most of you know I consume massive amounts of brownies on a daily basis, courtesy of my dear Mother that bakes them. So when I got the chance to review Namaste Foods Gluten Free Brownie Mix, I jumped on the occasion.

The ingredients in the mix are few: Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Sweet Brown Rice Flour, Dutch Cocoa, Tapioca Flour, Arrowroot Flour, Salt, and Xanthan Gum. Even though it’s gluten-free (as well as Dairy, Corn, Soy, Potato, Casein & Nut Free), it should be baked as a treat because it still contains a good amount of sugar. A brownie a day keeps the doctor away? (My Motto!)

The packaging it comes in is very recyclable: a brown, reusable bag with the mix inside (mix contained in a plastic bag that can also be reused).

Few Ingredients for a Delicious Treat!

Like most mixes, this was easy to make by just adding egg, water and oil. I added a splash of my homemade vanilla extract as well for depth of flavor and topped with fresh marshmallows.

Are you a bowl-licker?

The raw batter was decadent and rich, just like I’d expect from a brownie batter. I used canola oil but you can certainly add coconut oil to make these brownies even healthier and more flavorful!

Dense, Rich Brownie

The result? A dark, dense and fudgy brownie topped with a thin layer of marshmallows. Straight from the pan they were amazing and after they sat for a while they were still lovely. They were stored for about 2 days  and they were still as moist as day one. I loved the fact that the Namaste Brownie was so dense; reminded me of a flourless dark chocolate cake. This could easily be adapted to be served at a more upscale event by baking in ramekins and served along side Creme Anglaise, caramel sauce or homemade ice-cream.
