Last weekend I enjoyed some one on one time with my parents and we decided to go out to dinner. After debating the options, we ended up in Lupe, a trendy Mexican restaurant in the city. The restaurant has a lovely terrace in front but honestly, you have to PAY me to sit outside anywhere in this country at 6pm. It’s that hot. We entered and were greeted promptly, guided to a comfy table. The restaurant has tall ceilings and the motifs on the wall were cartoons of random people saying “You don’t have to be Mexican to eat a Taco” or “You don’t have to be Mexican to drink Tequila, which I found amusing.
We ordered Guacamole and Chips to munch on while our food came. The Guacamole was seasoned with lime and cilantro, topped with cheese and served with chips. The chips were fried to order, so a few were a little too greasy for my taste. Overall, the guacamole was pretty delicious!
What we ordered is called “Molcajete Mixto”. Moljacate refers to the stone tool, a Mexican Mortar and Pestle. It was a serving for 3 people, so you can imagine the size! It included pork, beef, chorizo, caramelized onions, melted cheese slices, and warm avocado slices. The bottom layer was a thick, meaty/tomato based stew with the caramelized onions and all the meat sat on this heaven! Drizzled on the tortillas, it only made this meal better. The beef, pork and chicken were all cooked nicely, nothing too dried out. The chorizo was nice to find, spicy! Atop this sat thick slices of melting cheese and avocado slices. Can you say heaven!? It came accompanied with wheat and corn tortillas, 10 small of them and we had to order 5 extra!
Definitely a place to try if you are in the city and just want good food and a fun time. Nothing fancy, just full of flavor and very reasonable when it comes to pricing. After eating all this, we were stuffed! What’s your favorite go-to Mexican place?

Love Mexican and guacamole of course. I used to hate it and found it very bland until I experienced it at Adobo Grill and it was incredible. I recreated it at home and flavored it up a bit and now its become a favorite in our house!
I shouldn’t read food blogs at 9:30am!! Now I really, really, really want mexican food, especially that huge assortment of goodness!! Sounds amazing, and that sauce? Yes please!
Good Lord, I want that! Sounds like my kind of meal (I would wish that the meat all came from happy animals:)
I am Very Glad to hear that I don’t have to be Mexican to drink tequila. Pleased that I haven’t been breaking the rules all these years! lol
looks like a fun place and you just can’t beat a good guacamole
