If you know anything about me, is that my love for tea is immeasurable. There’s just something about the comfort it brings me, the calmness of the ritual when preparing a cup, and overall just the feelings surrounding it that makes tea probably my favorite beverage in the world (coffee, I love you too, promise!). Today, I wanted to share with you My Three Favorite Black-Owned Tea Brands, what teas I buy from them, and why I think you should support them if you’re a tea lover like me!
My love for tea began in my teenage years I think, mostly because my mom brewed me a cup daily and would bring it to my room before bed. Honestly, moms are just so great and always know what you need. Oh how I wish I could go back to being 15 and having my mom brew my tea for me, ha! Sipping tea has been a thing for the past two decades in my life, and now as a 35 year old that has to brew her own tea, I’ve found some favorites that make me happy, nourish me, and at the same time, support small business owners.
First, let me introduce you to NOIREBUD. Oh dear, what a treat this tea brand is. They describe themselves best: “NOIREBUD is a fearlessly black female owned multidimensional CBD luxury product line which serves multiple demographics with humble charm, integrity, and simplicity.” Isn’t that just a fabulous way to introduce you to this blog post? Noirebud is everything you need in tea, and more. Imagine for a second combining my love for tea and my love for CBD and this is my dream brand. Carolyn Gray, the founder, has created this brand and I am so thankful for her because when I have a cup of this tea, my stress dissipates and I am ready for bed.
Starting with this ROSECAMO blend.
It’s Rose Flower, Rose Earl Grey, Chamomile Flower, and Hemp Derived CBD Oil. They use about a dozen roses in each bag, which is surreal. This is the tea to feel all the feelings, if you get what I mean. The CBD oil and chamomile will take care of relaxing you, as the rose petals help you feel confident and brave. It truly is a blend unlike any other. Indulge and buy ROSECAMO here.
And now, LAVANILLA. Oh how lovely.
My next favorite tea blend from NOIREBUD is their LAVANILLA tea pack. “Strong doses of calming lavender and smooth vanilla mixed with a dash of CBD flower creates an infused warm treat soothe the end of all hard days.” Friends, you NEED this tea in your life. I’m not kidding when I say I steep it twice – once before bed which I sip and then I make another cup and let steep overnight. I use that tea in my morning smoothie and oh dear, it’s the perfect way to start your day in a calm mood. There are some days when you just need that instead of chugging an extra coffee. Support and buy LAVANILLA here.
Have you ever used tea in your smoothies? I highly recommend it. Oh and speaking of high – you won’t get high with these teas because they are crafted with CBD not THC. The letters CBD stand for Cannabidiol which is a non-physoactive compound found in the cannabis plant. So go forth and steep!
Head to New York and get yourself from Brooklyn Tea.
Oh how I wish we had visited Brooklyn Tea last time we were in New York, because tea is lovely at home but when surrounded by other tea lovers and tea experts, the experience is just that much better. So, if you’re in Brooklyn or around, I suggest you visit and tell me all about it.
For those of us not able to make it over, we can order online a and that’s just what I did. Above you’ll note the three types of tea I ordered and have been sipping on for the past month or so. Here’s the list:
- Soursoup: Hand-picked from Grenada, soursop (also graviola, guyabano, and in Latin America, guanábana) has a smooth grassy taste and extraordinary health benefits. My dear guanábana is hands down my favorite fruit of all time, so finding this tea was heaven sent. The health benefits are one you should research because it’s crazy, so keeping this tea in stock in our tea drawer is a must always now!
- Coldkiller: warming blend of ginger, holy basil, rose hips and citrus. I specifically bought this as something to have in my first aid kit arsenal for the upcoming season. High in Vitamin C, immunity booster, and anti-inflammatory, this tea is great as an every day sip but also will be such a good one to have if we get sick this winter.
- Well-Kanda: a blend of Butterfly Pea Flowers and Lemongrass, this tea is lovely to sip on but even lovelier to look at when you add some lemon to it, as it turns a gorgeous color blue/purple. “Lemongrass has anti-microbial, anti-oxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. Moreover, it is also a good source of Vitamins A and C, folate, iron, magnesium, copper, potassium, calcium and manganese.” And again, that Vitamin C once the weather cools down is essential.
Brooklyn Tea offers such a wide range of tea blends in diverse sizing, I recommend ordering a variety of them. It’s the best way to try a few blends and see what you love!
I want to live in a place called Sacred Vibes Apothecary…
“Sacred Vibes Apothecary is a place of connection in our community, where the important work of Spiritual and Physical health is explored through the lenses of Social and Racial Justice. We use plants to connect you deeply to your roots and to expand your vision towards what wholeness can mean for you.”
Where the following two teas are crafted. Two teas that I think everyone needs: one for sleep and one for anxiety. Now, if you know me, you know I have anxiety. So any tea made to help with anxiety and a tea to soothe the nervous system, I’m in! Made with Oatstraw, Lemon Balm, Passion Flower, Wild Lettuce, Spearmint, and Gotu Kola, Anti-Anxietea is the perfect tea for mornings or afternoons where your nerves are going wild. It calms you down almost immediately.
Now, let’s talk about the Slumber Sleep Tea. A blend of Skullcap, Passion Flower, Hops, Lemon Balm, Lavender, and Hibiscus, this brews into a luscious deep Burgundy color thanks to the hibiscus, and at the same time lulls you to sleep. Skullcap and Passion flower are two of my favorite herbs for relaxation, so it’s nice to see them in this blend. Get some shuteye with this blend here.
I hope this roundup of my favorite Black owned tea brands helps you discover some new teas and you can find new ways to support the Black community, now and always.
