Every season is different and our skin needs different things during them, but one of the harshest times on our skin is definitely winter, specially if you live up north. These are my top 5 Essential Winter Facial Oils to use – whether it’s their aroma, their blends, or the way they feel on my skin, I’m sharing it all below.

5 Essential Winter Facial Oils

If I had to choose between ever using a lotion/cream moisturizer or a facial oil for the rest of my life, I would choose the oils, hands down, not even a second thought. You might be worried about breaking out with face oils, but I’m here to tell you that it’s a misconception and myth – oils don’t cause breakouts, but dirt and infections do. Cleansing your skin, making sure your diet isn’t packed with sugars and processed foods – those are the steps you need to take to make sure your skin is at it’s brightest and finest. I’ve been using oils on my oily/discolored skin for two years now and I can attest to its powers.

Facial oils really moisturize your skin better than any skin lotion – because of their composure, your skin is more hydrated. Plus, when you use oils, the ingredients are simple – which we can’t say about your regular moisturizer. So read on and test out one of these favorite winter facial oils – you’ll be surprised how much your skin will love them!

Winter Essential Facial Oils

1 – Apoterra Skincare’s Rose Nourishing Serum with Rosehip + CoQ10 ($35/1 oz)

What first draws me in to a face oil is the aroma and this one by Apoterra is swoon-worthy. Not only does it have rosehip oil, which is one of the best things for cell turnover and regenerating skin, it also has rose absolute, made of thousands of roses that are distilled to create the most gorgeously smelling oil. I love how this oil soaks into the skin and as I take deep breathes, it really calms and embraces me. The adding of CoQ10 is why this oil is best for dry and mature skin (aka my skin during a New England winter) because it does have an effect on wrinkles, reduces UV damage, and stimulates collage production. Also contains pomegranate oil, carrot seed oil, and a jojoba oil infusion. Pure love in a bottle!

Winter Essential Facial Oils

2 –  Hanu Skin Care’s Organic Nighttime Facial Oil ($40/1oz)

Locally made in Boston, MA, this nighttime face oil is genius with its addition of turmeric and blending it with geranium, ylang yang (oh the smell is divine!) and clove bud for what proves to be a fantastic restorative and detoxifying process for your skin. As before, you see pomegranate seed oil because one of its effects is that it really reduces skin inflammation and improves elasticity. Local heaven in a bottle!

Winter Essential Facial Oils

3 – Sibu Sea Berry Seed Oil ($39.95/1oz)

This is one of the two oils I’ve listed that are not blends and rightfully so, starting with sea berry (sea buckthorn) seed oil. As the bottle states, it’s rescue for problematic skin and this really means it offers relief to skin types that suffer from rosacea, eczema, acne, and other skin ailments. It’s so therapeutic, during the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, sea buckthorn was used to help heal the skin of burn victims! Granted, you can have normal skin and still use it – but it’s meant to be used for times when you really need that extra help. If you live in dry, desert climates or cold, blistering winters – this one is for you. Restorative health in a bottle!

Beauty For Foodies

4 – Organic Bath Company’s Nourish Day Oil ($76/1oz)

Organic Bath Company is run by a close friend out of Boston and was the brand that really introduced me to what clean beauty is. Their Nourish Day Oil is probably the most luxurious oil on this list and with due justice because the ingredients are highly coveted, exceptional, and deliver results. They first infused organic jojoba oil with calendula flowers and then add pomegranate see oil, as well as nourishing avocado and macadamia nut oils. What makes this facial oil extra special is the addition of tamanu oil which aids in discoloration and scars, and blue tansy oil that’s one of the best oils for inflammation, as it calms the skin with every use. Handcrafted in small batches, the brand also sells sample sizes of their oils that last 2-3 weeks so you can test them out before committing to an entire ounce. Relaxation in a bottle!

Winter Essential Facial Oils

5 – ActuallyOrganic’s 100% Pure Moroccan Argan Oil ($11.99/1oz)

Another non-blend, this is pure organ oil and sometimes that’s just what my skin needs. Between this and coconut oil, it’s what I use when my skin needs a break from everything else. It’s packed with antioxidants, vitamin E, and essential fatty acids – basically all I want on my skin. Plus, it’s great on the skin both days and night! Pure in a bottle!
