I’m excited to launch an idea, a living breathing project that I’ve been working on for the past year: Beauty For Foodies! Sprinkled between delicious recipes, you’ll be seeing these Beauty For Foodies posts – to remind you that what you put ON your body is just as important as what you put IN it.
You might be wondering why we’re talking about skincare and beauty products on a blog solely dedicated to recipes and food travel. Well, you might have read about how the green beauty world has lately become a “thing”. And by a “thing”, I mean the general public is slowly starting to realize how important it is to use products on their skin that are just as natural and organic as the products they eat and put in their bodies.
It’s a lifestyle I’ve been living now for probably 2.5 years and I’m here to finally share my love for clean beauty! Beauty For Foodies will m your go to guide for everything beauty – whether you’re looking for the best hair care or you’re a chef looking for the best natural deodorant, I’m here for you!
During the past year, I’ve discovered some amazing companies but I think I should kick off this series with the brand that inspired me to really look deep into what I was putting on my skin and reevaluating life in general: Organic Bath Co.
Two and a half years ago, Gianne Doherty, founder of the brand, tweeted me randomly, after seeing a tweet from me looking for more green beauty brands to discover. What we didn’t know at that moment was that Gianne and I would become great friends, connecting over no only our love for cleaner beauty routines, but our passion for good food, wine, and Caribbean islands!
Why cleaner beauty? Because every day we use thousand of chemicals that do nothing but congest our skin! Products try to manipulate us with their packaging and words like “all-natural” and we fall for it over and over again. My mission with Beauty For Foodies is to give you the tools to make smart decisions about your beauty routine – simple ways to clean it up!
Organic Bath Co. is the first thing I recommend to friends and family that want to move away from toxins in their skincare. They’re an approachable and affordable brand that discloses all their ingredients (using only the best!), and is made right in Boston, MA. And one product I can’t live without that Gianne makes is their Nourish Day Oil.
One thing you need to know about me, is that I am addicted to oils. The way they flawlessly smooth over your skin and the fact that my skin just soaks it up, makes me love them even more. This Nourish Day Oil honestly just brightens up my face the moment I put it on. It’s my go-to oil for mornings when I don’t have time to do much, mornings when I’m going straight to the restaurant, or just days when I don’t want to wear make up but what my skin to look it’s best.
Ingredients like jojoba oil that’s been infused with calendula flowers (swoon!), pomegranate oil, tamanu oil, blackberry oil, and more make this day oil pure perfection. It also has sea buckthorn oil which I’ll talk more about in a future post, because it’s one of my favorite oils and is great for regenerating skin (burn victims use it!). The best and most luxurious oil in this bottle is the blue tansy oil, known for it’s healing powers and the soft floral scent makes it the most luscious thing to slather on your skin early morning.
Next up in the Organic Bath Co. line is their Stress Less Body Oil and Nourish Night Balm. As someone that suffers from anxiety, lavender has become my go to natural remedy to calm in during difficult times and the Stress Less Body Oil does the perfect job. I recently used it before my wisdom teeth extraction (I only had local anesthesia, so I was a but nervous) and it certainly relaxed me! They use Bulgarian lavender which has such an intense aroma, it would put a baby to sleep.
The Nourish Night Balm was my go to balm this winter – when the weather is cold and dry, it’s my favorite thing to slather on. Organic Shea Butter, Organic Prickly Pear Seed Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Organic Reship, and Green Coffee Oil are some of the key ingredients and the combination makes for great results on your skin and face. You’ll wake up feeling so refreshed and hydrated. If your skin (or you) are hungover, this is just the thing.
