Ever have a craving for waffles and think – oh they are too much trouble? they’re not worth taking out the waffle iron? Well, you haven’t had these Savory Cheddar Sage Waffles – savory, cheesy, herby, and oh so delicious! Waffles are a big trend lately, in restaurant menus, hotel breakfasts, and even home cooks are thinking outside the box and making some magnificent waffles. Flavor combinations is what it’s all about and will a good waffle base,y you’ll go far. This particular recipe is a mix of both all purpose and whole wheat flour, the perfect balance of great texture and good health benefits.

And what makes these waffles extra delicious is the use of the world’s best cheddar, also known as Cabot Cheddar and lately I’ve been loving the Alpine Cheddar from their new Farmers’ Legacy CollectionA creamy, subtle Swiss and Italian Alpine Cheddar with a slight “grana” texture similar to Parmesan. It’ seriously the best cheddar cheese ever guys – head to your nearest store and grab some ASAP. Savory Cheddar Sage Waffles

These savory Cheddar Sage Waffles are the perfect treat as a brunch item or even a quick afternoon snack.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3 ounces cheddar cheese grated
  • 1 tablespoon fresh sage finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives finely chopped

Instructions

  • In your blender, place sugar, eggs, milk, and melted butter. Blend for 10 seconds.
  • Add the dry ingredients (flours, salt, pepper, and baking powder) and blend until it is all incorporated. You might need to scrape the sides of the blender mid-way.
  • Pour batter into a bowl and fold in grated cheddar and herbs.
  • Cook in your waffle iron, as per manufacture's instructions.
  • Serve hot.
