Can you believe it’s the first day of spring?! Which means only one thing: spring cleaning! Today, we show you how to get your pantry organized with the help of our friends from OXO

If your close friend just had a baby, one of the best gifts you can give her is the gift of either time or organization. Depending on how close you are, best friends won’t care that you open their messy pantry or peek into their disorganized coat closet! So when I traveled to Ballwin, Missouri after my best friend Joella had her second baby girl, I was armed and ready to tackle a week-long project of: making freezer meals, cleaning & organizing, and lots of babysitting!

PicMonkey CollagessdsOnce I opened my best friend’s pantry, I knew that I was in for a couple hours worth of work. Even though it’s a small (and oddly shaped) pantry, it was packed to the brim with ingredients that needed to be either consolidated or thrown out (expired). And let’s be honest, this is a task that will take from one to two hours, depending on the size of your pantry, so be sure to schedule this into your day! It’s best to get it done all in one swoop, since you don’t want to have random ingredients all over your tables and floors that need to be put back into the pantry. Be sure to grab a 10 Piece POP Container Set for all your pantry organizing! Also, check out the storage & organization section of OXO.com for more inspiration1

Steps to Organize Your Pantry

  1. Remove everything and when I say everything, it means everything! We simply took a bed sheet and opened it up on the floor (not wanting to place food items directly on the floor) and removed everything from inside the pantry.
  2. Clean inside the pantry: the walls, the shelves, the floor! A clean pantry will be a happy pantry!
  3. Consolidate: Like most people, my friend had a couple opened bags of flour, sugar, and pastas. These commonly used items are the ones we forget we have at home while food shopping and “grab one just in case” , only to get home and see you’ve got three bags of powdered sugar already! Put like items together and use the bigger OXO Good Grips POP containers for these. Our big items were spaghetti, rolled oats, corn kernels for popcorn, sugars, and polenta.
  4. Organize! This is where the real fun starts – think about the items you use the most and create certain sections as well. My friend is a talented baker, so I set up a baking shelf with all her ingredients easy to reach (do new moms have time to bake? I guess she’ll find out!) Items I knew they used every morning we placed in large OXO containers, specially their rolled oats since between my friend’s hubby and her 2 year old toddler, they consume more oatmeal than anyone I’ve ever met! As you can see, we’re big OXO fans. And it’s not just that they were generous enough to sponsor this post, but it’s the fact that I buy their products CONSTANTLY. Like, every time I go to the store, it seems there’s a new tool I need! And that brings me to sharing OXO’s mission, which I fully live myself: OXO is dedicated to providing innovative consumer products that make everyday living easier.

  1. I am obsessed with organization! I have issues actually, lol. I need to make it a priority in my budget this year to buy these. I have things in jars, all different sizes, but I like the airtight and streamline look of this.

  2. The gift of your time to help a friend organize an essential home space is one of the best gifts you can give. Love how it turned out!
