Let’s just pretend, for a very short second, what life would be like without coffee. GASP! I know. You can stop pretending now. Whew, that was close, huh? Coffee, to most of us, is THE reason to get up in the mornings, THE reason to not have to crash at 3pm, and THE reason that keeps us fueled through those sleepless nights when work needs to get done.

I myself have reduced my coffee intake after moving to Martha’s Vineyard. Coming from a Caribbean culture, Dominicans (and by Dominicans, I mean my Mother) tend to drink about 4-5 demitasse cups of espresso during the day. Right now, I have only three caffeine intakes: early morning while getting some online work done before going into the restaurant; before going into work, in the shower, I use THIS Coffee Lavender Body Scrub; and after dinner, as a night cap.

So, Coffee Lavender Body Scrub, you ask? Yes dear readers, you’ve read correctly. A simple mixture of used coffee grounds, organic coconut oil, fresh lavender buds, and coarse maple sugar (or any sugar you have available in your baking pantry) will become your new favorite beauty routine.

Not only is it easy to make, but you know what’s in it, no preservatives, addictives, colorings! And even better, it smells fantastic and wakes you up in the process! Do not use on your face if you have sensititve skin, but this is fantastic for the body, since it removes dead skins cells as well as hydrates your skin. Be sure to use with enough water to dissolve the sugar.

Disclaimer: This contains coconut OIL, a slippery substance that if used in extremes, may cause your shower floor to become slick. Just be careful and you’ll be fine!

Disclaimer #2: This is also a great scrub for when you work 14 hour days in a 110 degree kitchen. Your body will thank you. I know mine does.
