When I was contacted to be a part of #Welcome2012, my response was a deifinite yes! After the amazing and overwhelming #NellysBigDay party (thanks again everyone!), I wanted to celebrate with my Twitter and blog friends, cheering and sipping on champagne, while we all read and share each other’s favorite recipes of 2011, as well as showcasing some new recipes for the New Year.
What makes New Year’s Eve is the party; the getting dressed up (or dressed down if you’ve decided to stay in with your honey); the making of delicious foods, the act of sharing and ringing in the new year just makes everyone so much happier. New opportunities, fresh ideas and the excitement of all your new plans for 2012 just get the best of people and we walk around with a goofy smile (or drunk smile, depending on how many glasses of bubbles you’ve had!).

Here are some of my favorite posts from 2011:

Wanting to make this #Welcome2012 party even extra special, I’ve brought steak! Yeah, you heard me right, STEAK! Steak is the perfect dish to celebrate with, because it feel decadent and luxurious, yet it’s easily cooked and can be served with a variety of sauces, side dishes and more. This steak comes from Certified Steak & Seafood Company, a company that I’ve enjoyed working with over the past month or so and one that definitely stand by their products.

Here’s a little about CSS directly from their website:

Our commitment to our customers is simple: Offer the highest quality products at the best price and back it with a 100% guarantee. We source directly with no “middle man” making our supply chain the shortest in the industry. This allows us to maintain the highest quality standards all the way to your plate. On top of this, we sample all products at the moment of final packaging and have a world-renowned laboratory test for various types of adulteration or contamination. This ensures that the food you purchase from us is pure and safe.

We ordered the Twelve Steak Sampler that includes three different cuts (8 oz. Choice Ribeye, 8 oz. Choice Top Sirloin, and 7 oz. Choice Flat Iron). A total of twelve (four of each cut) Certified Angus Beef® steaks, it gave us a chance to get a feel for the quality of the steaks and also taste the different cuts. And not only does Certified Meat and Seafood sell the aforementioned, they’ve got some great combos as well as desserts ready for your party, so don’t forget to check those out as well.

Receiving the steaks ordered, it definitely showed how much this company cares for its products. Inside a cardboard box, there is a foam ice trunk, with ice packs and your steaks in sealed boxes. The steaks inside are vacuum sealed

Above is one of the many meals we cooked and it’s rubbed with Vegemite. You heard me right, Vegemite. [insert story here] … I was on the bus headed from Edgartown to Vineyard Haven about 2 months ago, when I hear some Australian tourists wondering what to do for lunch; I have only been on Martha’s Vineyard for a summer and a half, but still knew pretty much every restaurant. I recommended my favorites and wondered about about their foods, in particular Vegemite. Coincidentally, they had a new tube of it at the hotel, which they gifted to Curious Nelly!

What other dinners did we cook with steaks from CSS?

  • Seared Top Sirloin with a Blue Cheese Sauce and Roasted Carrots
  • Grilled Flat Iron with Chimichurri Sauce and Toasted Baguette
  • Ribeye Tacos with all the fixings
  • Surf and Turf with Sweet and Sour Shrimp
