What is Granola? Basically rolled oats (or any whole grain cereals) crumbled and baked until crispy. Some might confuse it with muesli, which is not baked. Made “famous” by the hippie movement for its organic quality, as well as the fact that it’s easy and light to carry around during hikes and nature trails.
Don’t you just love those clumps? Yum! |
Granola is a great breakfast food or snack to have around the house, and making your own allows you to control the ingredients in it. I’ve had my fair share of granola, eating them by the fistfuls until I realized I might as well be eating a jar of Nutella because of the amount of fats and sugars added.(Let’s set the record straight, I don’t want to come off as a granola eating baker. I’m NOT. Usually, I eat granola because of the yummy add-ins. Let’s be real.)
This is a basic granola recipe you can use to make your on and stir into your yogurt, top your fruit with or just snack on. The possibilities for add-ins are endless and here are just a few: Cranberries, Raisins, Walnuts, Pecans, Slivered Almonds, Chocolate Chips, and Coconut Flakes. I had mine over an easy Mango Puree I made. Enjoy!
Ingredients
1 cup rolled oats
¼ cup black sesame seeds
¼ cup golden flax seeds
½ cup honey
2 tablespoons molasses
Pinch of salt
Method
- Pre-heat oven 350 F.
- In a medium bowl, stir all the ingredients together.
- Spread on a lined sheet tray. Place in oven.
- After 10 minutes, use a spatula to move your granola around for even browning.
- Cook until desired golden color.

What’s your favorite granola add-in? Do you have a favorite granola you buy at the store?

I had to start making granola at home after looking at the nutritional information on the store bought kind. Whoa. Not as good for you as I thought! I never thought to have it with fruit puree, that sounds divine!
I love homemade granola. I’ve never put molasses in mine before, I’ll have to try out your recipe. I love molasses! 🙂
Lol, Great minds think alot. I just posted a granola recipe as well. But you already know that. Thanks for the comment.
I love the granola cereal that has strawberries in it – and although not healthy Kudos chocolate chip bars. Your pics are beautiful and I love the glass you are using!
I love granola. I’ve never used molasses in mine, great idea!
Love granola, which eminds me I am running low and WF ran out of rolled oats, how about that?! Need to make sure it’s on my list. Love this post!
I use to have a family recipe for granola and I lost it… I do remember it looking a lot like yours listed above. It also had roasted almond slivers and shredded coconut in it. So yummy. Think I might just have to try and recreate it 🙂
