Resolutions, we all got ’em. Resolutions, we all break ’em. But this year, I’m promising to keep them, starting simply with a healthier lifestyle and this Healthy Green Detox Juice is just the way to start!
At the end of 2014, I scored a great deal on this Waring Juicer and promised myself 2015 would be a healthier year. Just like everyone else, I make resolutions that I tend to not keep at the beginning of the new year. And I’ve heard myself saying these words before but… this year will be different, ha!
Not only am I a maid of honor at my best friend’s wedding, but with a new job + lifestyle, I’ve decided my feeding habits of “everything and anything at anytime” just won’t cut it. Oh and let’s not forget I’m turning 30 in three weeks. That adds to the looming pressure of a healthier, thinner me. 2014 was a year of over indulgence, of late night runs to restaurants for desserts, of tasting chef menus while traveling, to one too many sugary cocktails and drinks.
That leads me to my first (and only) resolution: I’m giving up artificial sodas in 2015. Meaning no more tummy ailing Ginger Ale unless I make it myself and definitely no refreshing Coca-Colas on a hot summer day. I’m sticking to natural seltzer waters, but more about that later.
As for healthier drinks starting right now, this Green Detox Juice is where it’s at! Packed with rainbow chard, cucumbers, oranges, apples, celery, ginger, and carrots, it’s one of my all time favorite fruit & vegetable combinations for juices.
For healthy green juices, make sure to keep a good balance of the amount of fruits vs. vegetables you’re putting in. Here, the sugars come from my apples, an orange, and carrots, so I make sure to have enough leafy greens and celery to balance it. Since you’re juicing and not blending, you’re removing most (if not all) of the fiber in the produce, meaning it’ll be a lot easier to digest and when the juice enters your body, it is quickly absorbed by your bloodstream a.k.a. you don’t want a sugar rush from your fruits!
Keep a lookout for more healthy yet delicious recipes in the upcoming months – if I ever want to fit into that maid of honor dress, I need to be a good girl and drink my fruits and vegetables! Happy 2015 everyone!
