Visiting Boston this summer? Make sure to stop by Tremont 647 for Sunday brunch – you won’t regret it!

Tremont Brunch 01

A couple of weeks ago, the husband and I headed into Boston for a our first Bruins game. Per usual, every time we head into Boston I create a quick itinerary of places we need to eat at. This time, Tremont 647 by Chef Andy Husbands was on the list for brunch. He recently published his third cookbook, Wicked Good Burgers with co-authors Chris Hart and Andrea Pyenson, so if you’re looking for a great summer cookbook, this is it. Another favorite of mine by him is Wicked Good Barbecue, a must have in any kitchen. But enough about his cookbook, let’s talk about his food.

The picture above is what welcomed us when we sat down for brunch. If you haven’t had butter cake, a St. Louis (Missouri) staple, you haven’t lived. At Tremont 647, the butter cake is crazy enough  made from a pound cake mix, lots of butter, a block of cream cheese, and sugar. The combination of all these (and don’t look down on the cake mix, it’s the traditional way!) make this one of the best cakes you’ll ever have. Plus, they smoke it instead of baking it, so it’s even more flavorful. Be sure to scroll down and check out the remake I made at home, plus the recipe.

But since it was Sunday and we’re adults, we decided to keep ordering sweets and choose this Rhubarb house made “pop tart”. The chocolate glaze was placed on the side because it was still Lent and I had given up chocolate for Lent this year. The perfect buttery dough surrounded the sweet rhubarb filling, making way for a delicious brunch to come.

And what you see above was what I ordered. The Fried Chicken “Benedict”, complete with biscuit, poached eggs, gravy, and coleslaw, it was probably one of the best brunch menu item I’ve ever enjoyed. The chicken was SO crispy and flavorful, and as the egg yolk broke and swirled into the dish, it made for the perfect sauce alongside the hollandaise. Definitely recommended!

What did the husband have? He ordered the Pork Carnitas Benny, under my endless requests because when I see tostones on a menu, I need to get them! His dish was made up of tostones (fried green plantains), pork carnitas, poached eggs, hollandaise, and a mixed greens salad to balance it all. If you’re craving tostones, this dish goes the distance in satisfying that craving!

We were so stuffed after a weekend of eating that we couldn’t take one more bite of anything, but our server treated us to a slice of banana pudding pie that we couldn’t say no to and ate so fast I couldn’t even snap a photo of it! So if you’re looking for a place to have brunch in Boston, be sure to check out Tremont 647, located in Boston’s South End (647 Tremont Street Boston, MA 02118).
