Pork Fried Rice recipe 01

One of my favorite ingredients and a staple in my kitchen pantry is rice. Basically we’re big fans of jasmine rice, but keep a stock of brown, wild, arborio, sushi, and plain long grain rice at all times. It’s not only a staple in my New England pantry, but I was raised on a Caribbean island where rice was present every day at lunch time. Whether it was mixed with red beans for a “moro” or when my mom made my all-time favorite chicken fried rice, arroz was endlessly present at our table.

And of course, I’ve brought my love of rice into my marriage to a man from Cape Cod, where rice is eaten sporadically! This pork fried rice is incredibly simple to make but the flavors go so well together. In most of our everyday recipes, a touch of heat is added almost everywhere, and this rice was not the exception. The pork chops were seasoned with Spiceologist’s Honey Habanero spice rub – the granulated honey caramelized when it hits the pan and the habanero powder adds that flavor kick!

Oh and my mom’s secret ingredient when it comes to fried rice? She finishes it off with a pat of unsalted butter – it really does add great shine to the rice, plus a ton of buttery flavor! Definitely not authentic in any way, it’s one of those moments where butter always makes a recipe better! Hope you enjoy this recipe – let me know in the comments what YOU add to your fried rice to make it unique!
