Sunflower Seed Smoothie

New smoothie ideas are sometimes tough to come by. You get in a rut of the same “strawberry, banana, yogurt” smoothies week after week and there’s no end to it. Today, I’m here to save the day, sharing this smoothie packed with sunflower butter and vanilla notes!

Smoothie 101

  1. What’s going to be your main flavor? I always keep frozen bananas in the freezer for smoothies and below the recipe you can see how I do it. Before going to the store and stocking up on frozen fruit, I prefer buying fresh fruit and freeze it myself. It’s usually cheaper! 
  2. Add texture with nut and seed butter! Rebecca of Foodie with Family gifted me a jar of this Once Again Sunflower Seed Butter and I’ve been waiting to use it. Smoothies are a perfect way to use nut and seed butters. They add flavor and great texture! 
  3. Using natural sweeteners. Go the natural route when you sweeten your smoothies and choose from agave, maple syrup, or honey. In this recipe, we used an organic vanilla coffee syrup from Madhava Sweeteners. It’s free of artificial ingredients and no HFCS! 
  4. Splash in some non-dairy fun! If you’re lactose intolerant or try to just keep your dairy consumption to a minimum, we’re loving the organic oat original beverage by Pacific Foods. It’s naturally sweet and perfect since it has a full serving of whole grains in 8 ounces.
  5. Boost the nutrition factor. Did you know spices are great aids in nutrition? Spices like cinnamon and turmeric, two of my favorite to use in smoothies, are great boosts of flavor and nutrition. Other great boosters are ground flaxseed and chia seeds.

Sunflower Seed Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 banana sliced and frozen
  • 1 cup Pacific Foods Non-Dairy Beverage
  • 2 tablespoons sunflower seed butter
  • 1 tablespoon Madhava Sweet Vanilla Coffee Syrup
  • pinch of cinnamon

Instructions

  • Blend everything until smooth. Sprinkle with cinnamon and enjoy!

Notes

Frozen bananas are great to have on hand and the perfect way to save bananas from going to waste once they turn to brown. Peel and chop into one two inch pieces and freeze in a single layer. After a few hours in the freezer, combine all the pieces into plastic baggies and save for smoothie making! Frozen bananas add great flavor, natural sweetness, and a smooth texture to your smoothies.
