It’s the middle of the afternoon, usually around 3:30pm for me, when it hits. I’m crashing and I’ve got no one to help me! I’d love to take a nap but if I do, my day is over and the work I’m supposed to get done will have to wait for tomorrow morning. That’s why as I searched for a quick pick-me-up, I didn’t have to search that far. See, a while back I won a Nespresso U Pure from Claire over at The Realistic Nutritionist and had never taken it out of the box. After running into a good friend that works for the gorgeous Nespresso store in Boston, I was motivated to bring that baby out of its box.
But where would I put it? We have very limited countertop space in the kitchen, so the bedroom was were the Nespresso was to live. Specifically, on my desk, to the right of me. And now it’s become my go to treat mid-afternoon. Oh and if I’ve been good, I’ll drop in a scoop of ice cream and call it an affogato. What’s an affogato? Translated from Italian, it litereally means “drowned” and it’s a coffee-based drink; usually a scoop of vanilla gelato topped with espresso, with variations including adding a shot of your favorite liqueur. Here’s it’s simply the strongest espresso blend Nespresso has, Ristretto, brewed over a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.
