This weekend I had the chance to check out a fair going on. More specifically, it was a fair focused on food products produced in the Dominican Republic, available for export. It was a great experience to see, taste and touch all the great and amazing products my country has to offer! Since “a picture is worth a thousand words”, I will blog via all the photos I took at the fair! Enjoy!

| This was the entrance of the Dominican Fiesta Hotel. They’ve got two tanks FILLED TO THE BRIM with turtles. I almost died when I saw them, because I LOVE turtles. Doesn’t the first picture look like they are posing and smiling just for me? |

| Chocal Ingredient list: Organic Cacao, Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Lecithin. Simple as that. On the package it reads “Traditional Chocolate Luneta, which means moon shaped, crafted with organic cacao & ready to eat straight from the package!” The chocolate “Luneta” had raisin undertones, though I’d prefer to make a product of of it, not eat it straight. |

| Cortes is a Dominican Brand with a wide range for products and just came out with these “Premium” bars. I will be taste testing them on another post and will tell you all about them. |

| Munne is another Dominican brand, with their products ranging from snack bars to powdered chocolate. None of their products are labeled with percentages and when asked why, they had no concreted answer. |

| “Kah Kow”, how fabulous is this name!? Sadly, they weren’t at their stand when I visited and could not try their chocolate but will track them down and get some! |

| Another major product in Dominican Republic is Coffee. There were a few big named coffees such as Cafe Santo Domingo (this is what I drink at home) and some smaller companies. A few located in Jarabacoa, where my family has a farm and I cannot wait to go up there and check out the coffee plantations. |

| This AMAZING company actually elaborates flours out of different starches and vegetables such as: Rice, Nopal, Boniato, Sweet Potato and more! This is amazing, since none of them contain gluten! |

| The company does not sell the flours (but I scored TONS of samples, so check back later on for recipe testing!); they actually are trying to sell the technology for the development of this product. |

Well I have tried basically every product, except the turtles, lol….just kidding.
I have no idea what the weird fruit/veggie is, and now I am curious. I also would like to try the flour of boniato and sweet potato.

Oh man that middle vegetable, it is a type of cucumber right? I remember it on Bizzare Foods with Andrew Zimmern….I will have to get back to you on this:-)
